Jorge: What was the inspiration behind building FollowUp.cc and what is the long term vision for the product?
Chris Keller: I was running another company and found I was not getting responses in the time frame I wanted. I wanted to follow up with the person if they hadn’t responded in a certain amount of time. So I tried using my calendar by setting a reminder for two weeks later, however, when the reminder came in, I didn’t know where the email was and sometimes who it was even referring to. I wished I could just embed the reminder in the email itself and have the whole conversation come back to the top of my inbox! That’s how the idea for FollowUp.cc was born.
Jorge: How do you think email has changed the way that we sell today?
Chris Keller: Email has enabled an asynchronous path to the customer’s mindshare. Now you have the ability to deliver your message in steps, build trust and educate the customer before ever picking up the phone. However, once a customer has engaged with you, the most important step is following up!
Jorge: What is FollowUp.cc and how can sales teams of all sizes leverage it to close more sales?
Suzanne: FollowUp.cc is the easiest way to embed a reminder in an email – so it is a tool that a sales team will actually use. There are lots of heavy systems for tracking leads and contacts, the beauty of FollowUp.cc is that it is so lightweight and easy.
A sales agent can set a reminder in 5 seconds without leaving their inbox or logging into a tool, this means that any email sent will never be forgotten and you’ll always be on top of the conversations you’re having. That is very powerful.
Jorge: What advice would you give early stage entrepreneurs about building a successful b2b software company?
Suzanne: There are some really powerful books that I would suggest reading. “The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Customer Development” by Brant Cooper and Patrick Vlaskovits, is a good place to start if you haven’t already read it.
Jorge: How do you believe CRM will evolve moving forward?
Suzanne: Great data is going to be key in the evolution of CRM, I love what Intercom.io has done here. Before Intercom, I just couldn’t get some of the data I needed to see on my users – now it takes a few minutes.
Jorge: How will the acquisition by Argon Technologies enhance the FollowUp.cc business and product?
Suzanne: Argon brings in a well-seasoned team of pros to help with the next stages of development for FollowUp.cc. You will have to check in over the year to see the features we have in the pipeline.
Jorge: What 3rd party integrations does FollowUp.cc have today?
Suzanne: Last year we launched the popular FollowUp.cc Chrome Extension, this extension makes it easier for Gmail users to use FollowUp.cc and has a great bookmarking feature. As for future integrations, FollowUp.cc already works on any email system and any device. If you can send an email, you can use FollowUp.cc – we can’t be much more integrated than that.
Jorge: What is the ideal customer profile for FollowUp.cc?
Suzanne: Anyone who uses email is an ideal customer. I am constantly surprised at the wide user base we have at FollowUp.cc. Last week I was on the phone with a real estate agent in Australia who uses the system to track leads. The next day I was talking to a teacher in Minnesota, who uses FollowUp.cc to track lesson plans. It is powerful to see the diversity of our users and how they implement the system in their daily email flow.
Jorge: Anything else that you’d like to share with our readers regarding FollowUp.cc, yourself, or Argon Technologies?
Suzanne: There are so many great ideas and uses for our service, I love hearing from both new users and pros – they usually have the best ideas for development and integration. It’s easy to reach me at email@example.com for more information on the service or to set up a trial for your team.
